The Chief Magistrate's Court in Hoima has scheduled Friday, February 13, for the hearing of the election petition filed by National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Dianah Ampaire Kampe, who lost the National Female Youth Member of Parliament seat to independent candidate Mercy Kanyesigye.
The election was held on Friday, February 6, at Hoima City Stadium.
The court order, signed by Chief Magistrate George Kunihira, notes that the matter came up for directions in the presence of Crispus Asiimwe, counsel for the applicant, while the applicant and all respondents were absent.
The court directed the applicant to file and serve the application (Miscellaneous Cause No. 06 of 2026) and supporting affidavits by the end of February 11, 2026, followed by filing an affidavit of service.
The respondents are required to file and serve their reply affidavits by close of business on February 12, with service to be effected through the applicant’s lawyers’ WhatsApp numbers.
The applicant may file and serve any rejoinder by 9 a.m. on February 13. The hearing has been set for 11 a.m. the same day.
This evening, February 12, Ms Kanyesigye’s lawyers filed their defense in preparation for the hearing.
According to official results, Ms Kanyesigye, an independent candidate, received 216 votes, while Dianah Ampaire Kampe, representing the NRM, garnered 198 votes.
Kampe claims that some of the votes counted for Kanyesigye were intended for her and vice versa.
The other independent candidate, Julia Muhumuza, received 24 votes, and Edith Namaganda of the National Unity Platform (NUP) secured one vote.
Two votes were declared invalid, making a total of 441 votes cast in the National Female Youth MP election.
